What is OBDeleven?

OBDeleven is a vehicle diagnostic and customization tool that consists of a compact OBDII device and a smartphone app.

OBDeleven homepage

OBDeleven works on the following car brands:

  • Volkswagen
  • Audi
  • BMW
  • MINI
  • Toyota
  • Skoda
  • Lamborghini
  • Bentley
  • Lexus
  • Rolls-Royce

It also works on all other car brands with an OBDII port, but only for basic OBDII diagnostic features.

How do you use OBDeleven?

Before you can start using OBDeleven, you need a (NextGen) OBDeleven device and the OBDeleven app installed on your phone.

The OBDeleven device is a compact Bluetooth device that plugs into the OBDII port of your car:

To start using OBDeleven, plug the device into the OBDII port of your car.

It will activate and light up to indicate that it is getting power:

Now, you must connect the OBDeleven device to the OBDeleven app on your smartphone.

The app can be downloaded for free on Google Play or the App Store:

OBDeleven apps

As you can see, OBDeleven has two apps listed on the App Store.

If your car is made by the Volkswagen-Audi Group (VAG), which includes the brands Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, SEAT, CUPRA, Lamborghini, and Bentley, you should get the ‘VAG’ version.

If you’re using OBDeleven for your BMW, MINI, Toyota, Lexus, or Rolls-Royce, you can get the ‘general’ OBDeleven app.

Note: I tested my OBDeleven device on a BMW 1 Series, so I used the ‘general’ OBDeleven app. Although I was already impressed with this app, the ‘VAG’ version app includes even more features! (I’ll get to differences shortly.)

Here is the welcome screen of the OBDeleven app:

OBDeleven app welcome screen

To connect the OBDeleven app to the OBDeleven device, the device must be plugged into your car’s OBDII port. Next, turn on the ignition and press the ‘Connect’ button in the app.

In my case, the app quickly connected to the OBDeleven device using Bluetooth.

After a successful connection, the app will show the make, model, battery voltage, and a picture of your car:

You’re now ready to start using all of OBDeleven’s features!

What can you do with OBDeleven?

Here is an overview of what you can do with OBDeleven:

  1. Scan, read, and clear diagnostic trouble codes
  2. Customize features using one-click apps
  3. Find vehicle information and history
  4. Long coding (VAG only)
  5. Monitor live vehicle data (VAG only)

Let’s discuss each awesome feature one by one!

1. Scan, read, and clear diagnostic trouble codes

One of OBDeleven’s main features is performing advanced diagnostics on your car.

Even if your car’s dashboard doesn’t indicate any problems, there can always be hidden issues with various control units, including the engine, transmission, ABS, airbag system, and more.

OBDeleven offers basic OBDII diagnostics for all car brands but has advanced diagnostic capabilities for the following cars:

  • All Volkswagen Group (VAG) brands
  • BMW E- (from 2008), F-, G-, I-series
  • MINI (F-series)
  • Selected Toyota Group and Rolls-Royce models

To scan your car’s fault codes, simply tap on the ‘Tap to scan’ button on the Home screen of the OBDeleven app.

The app will automatically start scanning all your car’s control units and keep you updated on the progress:

OBDeleven app full diagnostics scan progress

Once the scan is completed, the OBDeleven app shows how many faults it has found:

OBDeleven app 11 faults found

As you can see, in my case, the app found 11 faults!

When checking the overview of faults, I found that the faults were scattered in a few different control units, such as airbag, integrated chassis management, and sound amplifier:

OBDeleven app faults overview

You can click on each control unit to find an overview of its faults:

OBDeleven app ICM faults

Next, you can tap on any of the faults to find more details.

Let’s try this with the Integrated Chssis Management fault:

OBDeleven app fault overview

From this fault detail page, you can find:

  • Whether the fault is new or old
  • The fault’s status (if the fault is passive or active)
  • The manufacturer-specific fault code
  • A detailed description
  • A repair plan

For example, here is the description of this fault:

OBDeleven app fault description

And here is the repair plan:

OBDeleven app fault repair plan

I really liked this ‘Repair plan’ feature, as without it, I wouldn’t know whether this fault requires any attention.

However, the repair plan assures me that there’s generally nothing to worry about and that no repair activities are required!

In case you would like to learn more about a specific fault code, OBDeleven has made sure that it’s super easy as well.

They include the manufacturer-specific fault code and a Google link that automatically looks it up (simply click on the Google icon):

OBDeleven app search feature

You also might have noticed the ‘Slide to clear’ bar on the bottom of the screen.

A good practice is to clear the fault codes after a full scan and then do a full scan again.

This deletes any older, passive fault codes, and you’ll end up with a list of your car’s current, active fault codes.

After clearing my car’s fault codes on the OBDeleven app, I was left with six faults, all in the ‘Body Electronics’ module:

OBDeleven fault count after clearing faults

This revealed that the electronics module in my steering wheel has the wrong version (which could be true as the steering wheel has been replaced at one point) and that the footwell and ambient lights have a short circuit.

All features of my steering wheel work. However, the footwell lights at the front on one side were indeed not working (which I didn’t notice before), so it’s great that OBDeleven has helped me find it!

2. Customize features using one-click apps

OBDeleven’s diagnostics features are amazing, especially if you have a complaint or issue with your car.

However, diagnostics is just one part of what you can do with OBDeleven.

Something that may be even cooler (especially if your car doesn’t have faults) is OBDeleven’s one-click apps.

OBDeleven’s one-click apps are pre-programmed customization options that allow you to activate or deactivate various interior, dashboard, multimedia, lights, and other customization features:

OBDeleven one-click apps list

What surprised me was just how many one-click apps were available on OBDeleven.

Some of the more popular BMW-specific customization options were already enabled on my car before I got my OBDeleven device.

For example, I already had features such as auto start-stop disabled by default or the digital speed display, but I still found some great customization options that I added to the car!

For instance, I changed the front seat heating temperature to be 4 degrees warmer on all heating levels:

OBDeleven front seats heating temperature

And I added Scandinavian DRLs to my car, which ensures that both the front daytime running lights (DRLs) the taillights are on simultaneously:

OBDeleven Scandinavian DRLs

Adding these customization features using OBDeleven is super easy. You can most likely figure it out even without reading any articles or tutorials!

To start, simply click on any one-click app you would like to install on your car. Then, tap on the ‘Select Option’ button at the bottom of the screen.

Here, you can select whether you want to activate or deactivate a feature:

OBDeleven app options

Once you’re ready, tap the ‘Activate’ button, and OBDeleven will start adding (or removing) the feature from your car.

But before it does so, it always creates a backup in case anything goes wrong:

OBDeleven app backup

Next, OBDeleven will configure the control unit to activate the customization feature:

OBDeleven app activating

Then, it will restart the control unit:

OBDeleven control unit restart

And finally, it will show a confirmation that the one-click app has been activated:

OBDeleven app activated

And that’s it! You’ve just added a one-click customization feature to your car!

Easy, right?

3. Find vehicle information and history

The next feature of OBDeleven is that you can see lots of details about your vehicle and the customization history.

You can find details like the VIN, mileage, and factory country:

OBDeleven vehicle information

You also get an overview of each of your car’s control units:

OBDeleven control units overview

Plus, the ‘History’ features give you a complete history of any found fault codes, activated one-click apps, and more!

OBDeleven app history

4. Long coding (VAG only)

Do you recall when I mentioned that the ‘VAG’ version of OBDeleven will have even more features?

Well, we’ve reached the point where I can tell you a bit more about them!

The first one is long coding.

OBDeleven allows you to perform coding and long coding procedures on your VAG car (Android users can also use coding II and sub-CU coding procedures).

Long coding allows you to change the settings of your control units and thereby create your own customizations.

OBDeleven long coding

It’s a bit like creating one-click apps for your own use (but with long coding, you have to code the customization yourself)!

This means that it’s not as easy, but if you’re a coding enthusiast, it’s great that OBDeleven offers this feature.

5. Monitor live vehicle data (VAG only)

Another feature that is exclusively available for VAG cars is being able to monitor live data from your car’s control units.

You can select any of your car’s control units and view which data it is sending:

OBDeleven live data

This allows you to monitor the performance of your car and find any minor problems that require attention!

OBDeleven pricing

OBDeleven has simplified its pricing model by offering two packs that get you everything you need to start: the PRO Pack (€99.99) and the ULTIMATE Pack (€199.99).

OBDeleven packs pricing

Both the PRO and ULTIMATE Pack include a NextGen OBDeleven device (€59.99) and a subscription for VAG cars.

The main difference between OBDeleven PRO and ULTIMATE is that PRO gives you a PRO subscription, while ULTIMATE gives you a ULTIMATE subscription (that includes unlimited one-click apps).

The important thing to note here is that you can use OBDeleven without a subscription. The subscription offered in PRO and ULTIMATE is only for VAG brands, so you don’t need one if you have a BMW, MINI, or other non-VAG car.

You can even use OBDeleven without a subscription on your VAG car, but you won’t have access to VAG-only features like long coding.

Tip: You can find a complete comparison page of what extra features you get with a subscription here.

OBDeleven also works with a credit system for its one-click apps.

As you may have noticed during this review, one-click apps require anywhere between 10 and 100 credits to activate.

10 OBDeleven credits cost €1.99, and they become cheaper once you buy more:

OBDeleven credits pricing

If you’re wondering which OBDeleven to buy, I recommend getting a NextGen OBDeleven device together with 100 to 200 credits.

This allows you to do full diagnostics scans on your car and gives you enough credits to activate most (if not all) of the one-click apps you’re interested in.

So, no subscription plans.

If you find that you need any features from the subscriptions (especially if you’ve got a VAG car), you can always get a subscription separately later on!

Don’t forget to use the OBDeleven promo code ‘CARTRIPLE’ for 10% off on all products:

OBDeleven promo code

OBDeleven also comes with a 24-month warranty and a 14-day money-back guarantee.

Pros and cons of OBDeleven

So, in my experience, what were the pros and cons of OBDeleven?

I’ve summed them up for you below:

  • Convenient and easy to use. One of the things that strikes me most about OBDeleven is just how intuitive and user-friendly everything is. Even if you don’t understand anything about OBDII ports or diagnostic fault codes, you can still use it without issues. The plug-and-play functionality paired with Bluetooth connectivity means you can start diagnosing and customizing your vehicle in minutes!
  • Lots of customization options. Another amazing thing is the sheer number of customization options with OBDeleven’s one-click apps. You can pretty much entirely personalize your vehicle to your liking!
  • Easy to understand diagnostics. The OBDeleven app explains complex diagnostic codes in simple, understandable terms.
  • Helpful customer service. OBDeleven is known for its helpful customer service team, and from my experience, that’s completely true!

  • Lack of forum activity. From the app, OBDeleven links to a forum about your specific car model. A small disappointment for me was that there was no activity there from community members:
OBDeleven forum F20/F21
  • Not all listed one-click apps are always supported. Sometimes, I was looking at adding a one-click app to my car, only to find out that it’s not supported. On one hand, it’s nice to know which features would be available, but on the other hand, it’s frustrating to find that a one-click app is unavailable:
OBDeleven non-available one-click app
  • Credits can get pricey for frequent use of one-click apps. My car had 156 one-click apps available. Considering each activation costs 10 credits at minimum (€1.99), it can become pricey if you use this feature frequently.

On the other hand, you probably only need a small percentage of available apps, and you won’t change their settings every week.

Final verdict

So, what is my final verdict?

Do I recommend getting OBDeleven?

Final Verdict: OBDeleven is definitely worth getting in 2024, especially if you drive a car from one of OBDeleven’s supported brands.

The best thing about OBDeleven is that it’s both an advanced diagnostics tool and an advanced customization tool. Not only that, it works really well, and it’s so easy to use that even non-technical people will have absolutely no issues!
